The protection from previous doses or a COVID-19 infection may weaken over time. Booster doses help boost your antibodies and give you good protection from becoming seriously ill or needing to go to hospital if you get COVID-19.
Who can get a Booster
You will be offered a booster dose from October 2024 if you are:
age 60 or older
age 18 years and older with a condition that puts you at high risk of serious illness from COVID-19
those living in long term care facilities for older adults
If you're age 18 to 59 and not in one of the groups above, you can still request a vaccine. Talk to your GP about your reasons for wanting a booster.
How long to wait
You have to leave some time between your booster and your last COVID-19 vaccine or COVID-19 infection.
The recommended minimum interval following infection or vaccination is 6 months, however shorter intervals down to 3 months are permissible in certain circumstances.
